Christmas traditions vary dramatically from family to family, but one consistent element is that the holidays are a lot of work, especially for parents in Toronto. One reason for all that effort? That near universal tradition of a big and (hopefully) delicious meal. But what if this year you outsourced that momentous task to someone else? That’s right, instead of spending hours prepping dinner, all you need to do is pick up a pre-made take out Christmas dinner in Toronto (or in some cases have it delivered) and then warm it up in the oven.

While not quite as many restaurants are offering Christmas dinners to-go as in years past (but Lakeview’s famed deep-fried turkey is BACK), there’s still a nice selection of spots where you order your meal.

Below, we round up some Toronto-based caterers and restaurants that are serving up multi-course Christmas dinners to-go. While turkey is the star of most of these meals, we’ve made sure to feature a few other main course options, as well as try to provide options for a variety of price points and crowd sizes.

The post The Best Places to Get Real Christmas Trees in Toronto appeared first on SavvyMom.

It’s one of Christmas’ most debated topics: Real tree or fake? While the latter option has a lot going for (lower maintenance, can be put up earlier, and some even come pre-lit), there’s just something magical about having a real tree in your house (plus they smell so good). As usual, many big-name grocery stores are selling real Christmas trees in Toronto this year, and while that’s a perfectly fine option, supporting local small businesses is always great, too. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up several smaller spots where your family can grab the perfect pre-cut Christmas tree.

And since we know that some families would prefer to go full Griswold and chop down their own Christmas tree, we’ve also rounded up several cut-your-own options in and around the GTA. If you go that route, just be sure to give your tree a good shake to ensure you don’t bring home a new furry friend!

Regardless of where and how you acquire your real tree this year, just be prepared for some sticker shock as prices for trees have gone up significantly. And unfortunately, Ikea, a once reliable destination for cheaper trees, has continued to stay out of the conifer business.

Below we’ve rounded up over a dozen events and attractions that will let your family embrace this time of year. While we’ve included some Halloween-themed events, we’re working on a bigger list of spooky (but kid-friendly) entertainment happening in and around Toronto in October. Watch for that on the site in a week or two.

Fun Things to Do with Kids in Toronto in October

Farm Fun

Throughout October
Various Locations

Nothing quite says “autumn” like a trip out to one of the GTA’s many fun farms. These attractions often feature playgrounds, animals to feed and pet, tractor rides and more. If your family wants to pick apples and other produce (including pumpkins), check out our updated roundup here of where to go apple picking in Toronto.

One of the region’s most popular farms, Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm (9528 Regional Rd. 25, Milton), often sells out while another favourite choice, Downey’s Farm (13682 Heart Lake Rd., Caledon), only sells tickets online. And you’re looking for a spot where you can get a taste of some Halloween creepiness, check out Synder’s Family Farm (936685 Blenheim Rd., Bright), where you can explore some of the displays used for the nighttime Fear Farm attraction.

Brick-or-Treat Monster Party

Thursday September 25 to Friday October 31
LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Vaughan Mills

LEGO takes a spooky twist at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre with monster builds, scavenger hunts, and a special 4D Halloween movie. Families can enjoy themed décor, interactive stations, and plenty of hands-on fun that runs throughout the month. Perfect for kids who love building — and a little boo!

Nuit Blanche Toronto

Saturday October 4 to Sunday October 5
Downtown Toronto

Toronto stays up all night the first weekend in October for the annual Nuit Blanche festival with interactive art installations, performances, and large-scale exhibits across the city. Families can wander the downtown core and discover surprising, thought-provoking art around every corner — a memorable way to see the city come alive after dark.

The Little Mermaid

Saturdays and Sundays in October
The Randolph Theatre, 736 Bathurst St.

Based on the classic Disney animated feature, Disney’s The Little Mermaid – The Broadway Musical is a splashy musical extravaganza. Prepare to be swept away by all the songs you remember from the film and be delighted by new ones written by Oscar-winning Disney tunesmith Alan Menken.

Legends of Horror at Casa Loma

Saturday October 4 to Sunday November 1
Casa Loma, Toronto

Legends of Horror at Casa Loma features an immersive, theatrical walk that transforms the historic castle into a spooky maze of classic horror scenes. It’s more than just a haunted house. The actors, sets, and special effects create a story you walk through. Recommended for older kids and teens who can handle a scare.

PumpkinFest Toronto

Friday October 10 – Monday October 13
Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Dr., Toronto

Enjoy fall’s fresh weather while taking in a Halloween-theme carnival. This jam-packed event features food trucks, carnival rides and games, tractor-pulled hayrides and let’s not forget about all the live entertainment including Paw Patrol meet and greet! Tickets cost around $30 per person if purchased in advance (kids under two are free), and they’ll give you access to unlimited carnival rides, bouncy castles, performances and more.

Curious K Explores the Paleozoic

Saturday and Sunday October 18 &19
Wychwood Theatre, 76 Wychwood Ave., Toronto

This award-winning production explores the time before the dinosaurs, and it comes to the Wychwood Theatre straight from its invited run at Theatre by the Bay’s Barrie Theatre Festival. Curious K Explores the Paleozoic is a musical adventure for the whole family! The friendship between best friends Olivia and Emma is on thin ice when they stumble into a forgotten museum theatre and awaken a sentient, singing robot named Curious K.

Camp Spooky at Canada’s Wonderland

Until November 2
1 Canada’s Wonderland Dr., Vaughan

Wonderland’s Haunt, with its live actors dressed as zombies, ghouls and other creepies, might be too intense for the little ones but thankfully there is Camp Spooky, a kinder, gentler Halloween event that’s perfect for the under-12 set. Kids can collect treats, watch (and sometimes even participate) in special shows, explore mazes and more, all while in their Halloween costumes. And of course (most) of the usual rides and games are open. All the fun is covered by your Wonderland ticket.

Pumpkins After Dark

Until Saturday November 1
Country Heritage Park, 8560 Tremaine Rd., Milton

This award-winning outdoor walk-through event returns to help get your family into a Halloween frame-of-mind. Pumpkins After Dark keeps growing and in 2025 features a new Dracula’s castle maze plus 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins. There will also be live pumpkin-carving demonstrations, fall treats and sweets, and other forms of Halloween fun. Your family can even bring your pets every Wednesday night. All tickets must be purchased in advance.

Halloween Night of Lights & Pumpkinville

Until Saturday November 1
Sherway Gardens, 25 The West Mall, Etobicoke

This three-in-one event features a walk-through experience and a cute, Halloween-themed fun fair. Over two million LED and RGB lights synchronised to spooky tunes, as well as pumpkin carvings and other seasonal décor, line a “trail” that will take around 45 minutes to walk. It wraps up at Pumpkinville, where you’ll find carnival rides, tons of photo ops, and even a beer garden complete with food trucks. Pumpkinville opens at noon on weekends while Night of Lights gets started once it gets dark out. Some nights are also pet-friendly!

Toronto Sunday Market: Halloween Market

Sunday October 26
The Parkdale Hall, 1605 Queen St.

Dress up and head to The Sunday Halloween Market for a spooktacular event filled with festive fun. Enjoy shopping, delicious treats, and Halloween-themed activities. Come in your best costume and explore all the unique vendors offering everything from handmade crafts to tasty treats. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to celebrate Halloween in style at the Toronto Sunday Market!
